Ruby Backend Developer

As a member of our development team you will be responsible for developing and designing the back end of our web based systems.

Job description:

  • Perform detailed application design, database design, coding and unit/ integration/ performance testing
  • Build secure web applications with user authentication and role-based access control
  • Define, measure, and improve website development, coding practices, and maintenance processes
  • Maintain site updates, fixing and troubleshooting front-end bugs, and improving performance
  • Optimize existing code with engineering best practices
  • Participate in code reviews and passionate about delivering results

Required skills and competence:

  • 4+ years of solid programming experience in Ruby
  • Previous hands-on experience with complex IT Systems solutions and business applications
  • Knowledge of design patterns
  • Experience with scaling a large Rails application. Skills should include code optimization, caching, and the ability to debug bottlenecks
  • Fluency in unit and integration testing, code reviews, distributed source code management and automated quality assurance
  • A passion for standardization, style guides and process efficiency
  • Proficient with relational databases outside of Rails. Should be capable of writing raw SQL queries
  • Experience building and integrating with RESTful JSON API's.
  • Strong knowledge of Rails, mysql / postgres, mongo, redis, memcached, rspec, git etc.
  • Knowledge of frontend technologies

Desired skills and competence:

  • Experience with AWS (EC2, S3, Route 53, RDS, ElasticCache)
  • Knowledge of automation and deployment frameworks (Ansible, SaltStack, Chef, Puppet)
  • Abreast of current trends, best practices and web standards
  • knowledge of web and networking protocols: TCP, DNS, SSH, HTTP/S
