How Artec 3D is supporting Ukraine

Introducing Artec SDK 2.0, the long-awaited tool for 3D scanning app developers

This end of year is a time of special celebrations at Artec 3D, and we’re happy to share our passion for the best 3D scanning solutions with our customers. We’ve just marked our company’s 10th anniversary with a giveaway of an Artec Eva 3D scanner and Artec Studio lifetime licenses. Ahead of the holiday season, we announced a campaign for upgrading older software licenses with incredible discounts. And today we’re releasing the latest build of Artec Scanning SDK, the previous version of which has been a hit with 3D scanning app developers.

If you want to integrate any of the Artec 3D portable scanners from our current product line into a system for automated 3D digitizing, industrial quality control or reverse engineering, Artec SDK 2.0 is your solution of choice.

The previous build of SDK has established itself as a reliable tool for creating customized apps that can control the 3D scanner and process the captured 3D data into a textured, watertight 3D model. Examples of using SDK include Autodesk’s PowerShape CAD software for creating manufacture-ready molds and dies, as well as Artec’s RoboticScan automatic 3D scanning system.

Beefed up with a set of new powerful features, Artec SDK 2.0 allows you to develop customized 3D scanning apps with greater functionality than ever before.

With the release of SDK 2.0, we’re bolstering the SDK 1.0 toolset with new features for greater efficiency of 3D data processing.

One of the new features that facilitate the handling of 3D scans is Auto-align, which allows the software to automatically position several scans of one object against each other, preparing them to be fused into a seamless 3D model. Auto-align is especially useful when working on large projects as it spares you the need to find common reference points between multiple scans and align them manually.

SDK 2.0 also offers ultra-fast global registration, during which all one-frame surfaces that the scans consist of are computed into a single coordinate system. That’s always been one of the most resource-intensive and time-consuming steps in the process of creating a 3D model, and in SDK 2.0 you’ll find the latest version of the global registration algorithm, which now works up to 20 times faster, allowing you to save minutes on small projects and hours on larger ones.

The newest global registration algorithm converts all 3D frames into a single coordinate system up to 20 times faster, allowing you to save minutes on small projects and hours on larger ones.

Another feature to enjoy is texturizing your 3D model. When you’re scanning an object for a full-color 3D model, the scanner generates two datasets: geometry and texture. It is critically important to accurately superimpose the texture dataset on the geometry one when completing post-processing. Thanks to Artec’s automatic algorithms, texture is applied with utmost accuracy and in no time at all.

In addition to this, SDK 2.0 supports projects in Artec Studio format, meaning you can scan an object in your SDK-based app and then easily open the project in Artec Studio. Likewise, you can scan an object in Artec Studio and then open the project in your app.
