How Artec 3D is supporting Ukraine

We want YOU! Contribute to the progress of science by taking part in a FUN 3D research project this August and get a digital 3D selfie!

| La Belle Étoile, Route d’Arlon, Luxembourg (Luxembourg)

Calling all fun-loving science aficionados! Take part in an exciting research project and get great rewards for your input into modern science! Researchers from Artec 3D and Luxembourg University’s SnT team are inviting volunteers to come down to the Belle Étoile shopping centre from the 7th to the 27th of August 2018 to get scanned by the state-of-the-art Artec 3D full body scanner.

Visitors to the shopping centre can get a full body scan with the Artec Shapify Booth, which will be installed in front of C&A in the Belle Etoile. The scanning process is safe for children and adults alike and takes only 12 seconds. As well as feeling good about supporting science in Luxembourg, scanning participants get to go home with their own digital selfie and also a set of complimentary sports gear!

By contributing to this exciting research project, participants will be helping scientists from the Luxembourg University and Artec 3D develop a way of getting accurate body measurements from a 3D scan of a person in their ordinary clothes. This will be of great benefit for many applications, healthcare in particular. Currently, state-of-the-art 3D scanners can only create accurate digital 3D models of the body if the person is wearing skin-tight clothing.

“In healthcare, for example, medical staff would be able to take comprehensive body measurements just by scanning their patients,” says Luxembourg University PhD candidate Alexandre Saint. “The benefits of being able to infer this data without occlusion from clothing, would be significant in terms of making 3D scanning a viable tool for medical experts and enhancing efficiency and patient comfort.”

Luxembourg University and Artec 3D are working closely with the Luxembourgish Commission Nationale pour la Protection des Données, so you can rest assured your data will be confidential, while at the same contributing great value to science!
