Classic pocket watch
It’s time to take 3D scanning resolution to the max with this 3D model of an old-fashioned pocket watch. Check out the beautiful detailing on its front, or flip the model to see incredibly complex patterning – sized well under a millimeter at its center – captured in all its glory.
The intricate nature of its design meant the watch had to be scanned four times: at the front, from the rear, at the top (to capture its dial area), and another time sat on its side for alignment. Artec Spider II has such a high frame capture speed and broad field of view that this entire process took just 15 minutes, while data processing could be finished in half an hour.
A small amount of spray was used for its rear notches, and the watch’s broken clasp meant some adhesive was required to keep it closed, but the results are fantastic. Just look at the detailing around its crown. Every individual notch is still there, its movable hoop is also visible from a 360-degree angle. Now that’s what we call high-resolution 3D model capture!
