Prop gun
This incredibly detailed firearm 3D model wasn’t the easiest item to capture in our collection, but we think you’ll agree our efforts were worth it! Everything from the gun’s branding to the inside of its cocking mechanism and tiny organic-shaped engravings are visible in the final model.
Its top side turned out to be extremely shiny, and moving parts had to be secured to prevent scan blurring. But as you can see, Spider II really came into its own in this project, capturing even traditionally tricky areas in ultra-high resolution. This was especially true of the featureless barrel, where the scanner’s wider field of view ensured stable tracking and great gun capture.
In the end, we had to do separate scans of areas like inside the barrel’s deep holes and align them in Artec Studio. Scanning also required a significant amount of prep. However, the actual data capture and processing workflow took less than two hours. Not bad for a photorealistic 3D model like this one!
