USB 3.0 compatibility (Artec Eva / Spider / Space Spider)

General information

Users occasionally ask whether our scanners are compatible with USB 3.0, the answer is yes.

Originally, we designed our scanners with USB 2.0 support. USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0, so our scanners are compatible with USB 3.0 as well.

On a more technical note, we should mention that some USB 3.0 controllers offer USB 2.0 support in emulation mode. So the compatibility in fact depends on the quality of the emulation running on a particular chipset.

On the basis of our experience and the experience of our customers, we have added several USB 3.0 chipsets to our recommended list.

How to check the chipset manufacturer

To check your chipset manufacturer and series, open the Windows Device Manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section:

Important issues to keep in mind:

  1. For best performance, we recommend installing the latest drivers for Artec scanners (which are included in Artec Studio versions 9.2.5.4, 10 and 11).
  2. Some of our clients report that discontinued scanners (Artec MHT, MH, S, L and M) may work with USB 3.0, but we recommend USB 2.0 for these devices.
