Less waste, even better protection: Artec 3D rolls out all-new eco-friendly packaging
Artec 3D has doubled down on its commitment to sustainability with a complete redesign of its product packaging.
Instead of traditional foam, Artec 3D’s new packaging features an elastomer system that safely suspends devices inside a cardboard frame. Developed by Sealed Air, the global packaging pioneer and original inventor of Bubble Wap, this technology makes parcels less bulky and easier to handle, while offering even greater product protection.

The first device to benefit from this improved packaging is the company’s flagship 3D scanner: Artec Leo. Shrinking Leo’s package size by over 40% is expected to reduce Artec 3D’s carbon footprint due to fewer trucks and flights being required across its global logistics network. It also means less waste for customers to process and dispose of on-site – boosting efficiency, helping maximize their storage space, and supporting the wider push for global sustainability.
Less waste, even greater protection
At its core, Artec Leo’s new packaging is built around “Korrvu” suspension, a technology that sees high-strength elastic membranes mounted to a lightweight fiberboard. As parcels close, elastomeric films lock into place, suspending products in the middle to give them a buffer on all sides. When bumped, films bounce back into place like a trampoline, keeping scanners safe.

Replacing non-recyclable foam inserts with a thin elastomeric membrane and highly recyclable corrugated cardboard isn’t just eco-friendly; it offers better protection. With 360-degree coverage, elastomeric films stretch to absorb kinetic energy and grip scanners to prevent cosmetic damage caused by accidental knocks. This new packaging approach absorbs and dissipates impacts far more effectively, reducing shock forces by over a third.
The film’s non-slip surface holds the device firmly in place, eliminating the need for additional securing materials like tape, straps, or foam wedges. The membrane is also highly resistant to punctures and tears, and thanks to its elastomeric memory, it returns to its original tension after impact without sagging or degrading over repeated use.

Artec Leo’s smaller box also translates into practical advantages. As well as being easier to lift, carry, and store, the packaging can be used to re-suspend devices as required. When not in use, box inserts fold flat into thin sheets for compact storage. Overall, these material, volume, and waste efficiencies lower the cost and footprint of every unit shipped worldwide.
Setting a new sustainability standard
Artec Leo’s success opens the door for Artec 3D to extend this packaging innovation to other products in its scanner lineup. Internally, the company is already reviewing packaging across its portfolio with a view to applying the same principles to streamline logistics where possible.
