BABAO

What: BABAO 2025
Where: The University of Leicester, Brookfield Campus
When: September 19-20, 2025

Archeologists assemble! The University of Leicester is hosting the 26th edition of the annual BABAO biological anthropology and osteoarchaeology conference this September.

Throughout the two-day event, attendees will be treated to talks, workshops, and tuition on many of the hottest topics in the field, including remains profiling and archeological dataset analysis. Many of the sessions will involve advanced technologies designed to facilitate in-depth research via improved data visualization and modeling, as well as statistical evaluation.

UK-based Artec Ambassador Central Scanning will also be on hand to showcase Artec Spider II & Micro II. While Spider II is an ultra-high-resolution handheld for digitizing small-to-medium archeological finds with intricate detail, Micro II is better suited to tiny objects like old coins.

Both devices have found applications in heritage preservation. In one such use case, Micro has been used for preserving ancient artifacts. They’ve also found uses in areas like forensics – Spider, for example, has aided numerous studies, including in bite mark analysis.

Central Scanning markets all Artec’s scanners and more. The team will be on-site throughout BABAO 2025 to demo Spider II & Micro II and explain their benefits to archeological users.
