Applications

Plastic surgery

Raise your consult-to-surgery conversions by using a hand-held Artec 3D Scanner, optimize your consultation time and increase patient referrals!

By using a hand-held Artec 3D scanner you can get a precise, colored 3D model of the client’s breast, face or any other part of the body in a fraction of a minute. Artec Studio software allows you to take any volumetric or linear measurements from the scanned model and visualize pre- and post surgery appearance with all nuances of shape and skin.

No need to send your client for expensive MRI or X-ray imagining. No need to rent additional office space to accommodate large and expensive equipment. No need to spend consultation time looking at photos of previous patients, patient’s friends, or taking multiple photos of your client while becoming an expert in photo editing. Gain time instead and focus on the patient.

Show your patient comparative 3D images of his/her body before and after surgery. Providing patients with a 3D simulation during consultation allows you to increase their confidence in the upcoming surgery and benefit from a significant competitive edge.

Orthopaedics and prosthetics

Our 3D scanners are successfully used by orthopeds and prosthetists in order to generate accurate scans of body parts. This means they can produce highly accurate and perfectly fitted prostheses with minimum effort. The result is a significant decrease in cost and time spent on each job.

The technology of 3D scanning lies at the heart of a system of diagnostics that carries no health risk and means that spinal disorders such as scoliosis, cyphosis, lordosis and rotational spondylolisthesis can be detected in their early stages. Scanning a patient’s back is a harmless and quick procedure, which can be carried out as often as required. As a result, using a 3D scanner to measure spinal curvature often helps in diagnosing the evolution of a disorder.

Post-trauma care

Treatment after serious injury can be as painful as the injury itself. The Artec 3D Scanner can help alleviate that pain for burn victims, by providing a perfect 3D scan of the patient’s face, for example. This will enable the medical professional to create a custom-fit mask to expedite the healing process without messy plaster moulds or the necessity to touch the sensitive, affected area of the body.

Dietology

Comparing 3D body images made before and during health procedures, dieticians can show their patients the changes in their physiques. People who receive visual confirmation of the effectiveness of diet and exercise are thus given an added incentive to continue the regiment in order to achieve their ideal weight.

New way to shop

Shopping is a breeze, when there is no need for the fitting room. Imagine walking into a store and knowing which items will fit perfectly, so that the only thing to do is to pick the style and color. This can be done with the help of Artec technology. A customer is scanned and his/her body measurements are automatically compared to a database of clothing in the store. Aside from having novel marketing appeal, the store benefits because the customer is exposed to all relevant items, whereas before, the same client could have missed that pair of pants that fits perfectly.

Ergonomics

Creating an ergonomically correct chair, keyboard or joystick can be done by researching the natural position of the body during a particular task. This research can easily be done with the help of Artec 3D Scanner and its ability to digitize the human body in seconds.

Computer graphics for the cinema and gaming industries

It’s no secret that computer graphics are widely used in the production of modern special effects. An accurate 3D model of an actor or an object can often make the difference between what is possible and what is not. In order to ensure that special effects are as authentic as possible, moviemakers are faced with a task of scanning actors in 3D. In modern cinema, this is essential.

Artec technology allows scanning an actor or a feature of a scene quickly and accurately, and this information can be used simply for reference, but can also make life much easier for 3D modelers. A highly polygonal scan can be used to construct a less polygonal animated model and to produce typical and displacement maps.

Artec 3D Scanners have already been used in the making of such films as Black Lightning, the Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter.
